A jack plate works by moving the engine aft away from the hull.
As the hull moves through the water, the water column is depressed.
As the water column leaves the transom it begins to rise to its original height.
The farther the engine is behind the transom the higher the cavitation plate can be and still have sufficient depth in the water column.
The jack plate is a fixed mount model MMJ from Bob's Machine Shop.
This jack plate is adjustable for both height and distance behind the transom.
This installation moves the Mercury 6 inches aft and raises it 3 inches.
The remote controlled tilt and trim provides additional control over skeg depth and boat trim.
The cavitation plate is 3 inches above the bottom of the hull providing a significant increase in shallow draft performance.
The stainless steel prop is heavily cupped to reduce cavitation.
It is a 3 blade, 10 inch diameter, 11 inch pitch with a satin finish from
Power Tech Propellers.
NOTE: February 2005 - The manual jack plate was lowered one inch because there were indications that the prop was cavitating at times. There is no more signs of cavitation and WOT speed increased 2.8 MPH.
