Black Fly is a Gheenoe Classic that has been specifically built for sight casting Florida's game fish. ![]()
The Gheenoe family was created to easily navigate extremely shallow water. Designed by Harley W. Gheen in the mid 60's, the hull form is amazingly stable and seaworthy. The boat is built by Gheen Mfg. Inc. in Titusville, Florida.

The Classic model hull was purchased from Andy Boomhower Canoe in Punta Gorda with a forward casting deck and poling platform. The hull features custom black gel coat.
Much thought was given to the center of gravity while fishing the flats and underway. Performance expectations demanded the largest engine rated for the hull, 25 HP. For additional performance in very shallow water, a jack plate would be installed which would move the engine weight even farther aft. To offset this, the forward seat was moved forward 16 inches during construction at the factory.

The hull, poling platform and tiller steering was picked up in Titusville. The 25 HP Mercury Electric Remote with electric tilt and trim was rigged by Fort Myers Marine. All other rigging was done by the owner.
Black Fly is driven from the forward seat and controlled by stick steering and a standard Mercury control unit. The passenger rides in the aft seat. A third person can ride sitting on the cooler amidships.
The boat carries 12 gallons of gas and a 50 quart cooler located over the center of gravity so the trim doesn't change as consumables are used.
Every expectation of her design and construction has been met or exceeded. Please view the additional pages for more detail about Black Fly. Check back often as this site will be updated with new pictures and boat modifications.
